The remodel.

We finally realized our dream to own a beach house. But it's a big project as we have decided to remodel the entire house. It has a great location, wonderful ocean views and "great bones" but we want to make it "our own".

Check out my art

The photos at the bottom of this post are what I refer to as the "before pictures". I took them during the inspection during which I also had a chance to meet the owners. They were very gracious and wanted to hear about our remodel plans .  I hope they know we love their house but just want to make it eventually feel like "our house". And you must be sure to check out the ceiling in the downstairs family room. It's pretty funky. But easily removeable!

Before you see the "before shots", here a few of the "inspirational photos" I am using for the remodel.
First, the color palette.
Picture
I am going to use tongue and groove to cover the "cottage cheese" ceilings similar to what is seen here in the photo. But they will be painted white.

Furniture inspiration. Most of the furniture will be slipcovered. And there will be lots of white!

And the "before" photos ...
I have been uploading a ton of photos on Pinterest and Houzz since we put the offer on the house. There are so many incredible ideas to be found on the internet.
So what do you think so far?

Thanks Hallie! Pinterest and Houzz are wonderful places to find ideas! Let's just hope I can orchestrate them in to reality. Haha.

Thanks Laurie. We looked at houses that were farther from the beach and already redone. But I kept telling Dave that I wanted a beach house with great views and as close as possible to the water. We are so happy with the location.

That might be just what gets me to California! Best of luck.

Leslie, this house has soooooo much potential, but there are some crazy ceilings in there:) I can not wait to follow your journey! Your aesthetic is beautiful. You should watch Something's Gotta Give for some inspiration as well, her beach home is AMAZING!!!! Here is a link to a tour on one of my favorite blogshttp://betweennapsontheporch.net/the-beach-house-in-somethings-gotta-give/

Carrie - I know, can you believe the celing that is in the downstairs family room? I honestly did not know this kind of option existed. Even in the 1970's. I think the boys and I will take great pleasure in the demo of that room. Especially since it is a drop down ceiling and takes up about 6" of headroom.
Now ... a funnt story about the set from Something's Gotta Give. We filmed a movie here a few years ago and the set designer from that movie was here. I told her that beach house was my absolute favorite and I had watched the movie a few more times just to soak in the decor. She then told me that the house didn't exist. She said the interior was all on a set in Los Angeles and the exterior (stairs) were on a beach somewhere. Gotta love Hollywood!

I heard her do an interview with Nate Berkus when he was doing Sirius radio. I love her work!!!! And yes gotta love Hollywood:)) But that house is to die for and almost every Interior Designer wants to duplicate it:) Love the art in that movie as well! Have you watched the extras on the DVD? They go in depth about some of the art and decor.
Also love the house in It's Complicated, but that is a totally different vibe.

How exciting Leslie! That is going to be breathtaking after you are done with it.

Our family just purchase a tiny house on a brook and are doing our own remodel currently. Hard work but Fun!!!

Can't wait to see the progress!
